1. Rinse the sprayer immediately after every application
Never postpone cleaning until the next day. Plant protection products can dry inside the tank, pipes, filters and nozzles, leaving deposits that are difficult to remove. These residues may affect the next application, clog components and even damage seals.
Always flush the entire system thoroughly with clean water immediately after finishing work. Proper rinsing protects the sprayer while helping maintain accurate and uniform application.
2. Protect electronics from excessive heat
Modern sprayers increasingly rely on electronic controllers, sensors and displays. During hot summer days, prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can shorten the lifespan of electronic components and displays.
Whenever possible, park the machine in the shade or under cover. If this is not possible, consider protecting sensitive control units from continuous sun exposure.
3. Inspect seals, hoses and the pump regularly
High temperatures accelerate the ageing of rubber components. Before small leaks become larger problems, inspect hoses, fittings and seals for cracks, wear or moisture around connections.
For diaphragm pumps, regularly check the oil level and condition according to the manufacturer's recommendations. A well-maintained pump is essential for stable pressure, reliable operation and long service life.
4. Clean filters and nozzles correctly
Filters and nozzles are critical for maintaining the correct application rate and spray pattern. Even small deposits can reduce spraying quality and increase chemical consumption.
Clean nozzles only with clean water and a soft brush or a dedicated nozzle cleaning tool. Never use wire, nails or sharp metal objects, as these can permanently enlarge the nozzle orifice and reduce application accuracy.
5. Store the sprayer properly
At the end of the working day, empty the tank completely and avoid leaving spray solution inside the machine, especially during hot weather. High temperatures may affect product stability while unnecessary exposure increases stress on seals and internal components.
Whenever possible, store the sprayer in a shaded, dry location protected from direct sunlight.
Small checks make a big difference
Besides these five basic rules, it is worth spending a few extra minutes checking the pressure gauge, ensuring all valves operate smoothly and confirming that the agitation system functions correctly. These simple inspections often identify minor issues before they become expensive repairs.
Proper maintenance is not only about protecting your investment. A well-maintained sprayer provides more accurate application, reduces chemical waste, improves crop protection and helps ensure reliable operation throughout the entire spraying season.
Taking care of your sprayer today means better performance tomorrow, lower operating costs and greater confidence every time you enter the field.
